For many years I've been trying many different Linux distros like Turbolinux (back in 1998), Slackware, Suse, Mandrake and others. But none of them worked well for me as a desktop user. Latelly, I've been using exclusively opensource apps in my desktop: GIMP, OpenOffice, Firefox, VLC, Azureus and others. The only thing that was missing was an operational system that was easy enough to configure and enjoyable to use. That I found with Ubuntu. I have tried Ubuntu 6.06 and them moved to Ubuntu 6.10. I'm currently using it with Beryl, since my computer supports hardware 3D acceleration. One thing that make me very happy about Ubuntu is how fast it evolves. Installing new hardware and software is getting easier than in rWindows. Right now I still have a copy of rWindows running at my machine with dual boot, since there are some apps and some docs that make it necessary. But I expect to wipe it out until the end of February. I must thank you for your initiative and, of course, for shipping the cd with Ubuntu 6.06. I'm planning to foward my cd as soon as I found someone how will make good use of it.
